A Solemn Memorial to Sacrifice, Courage, and National Remembrance.
The Tunnel of Martyrs is a solemn passage dedicated to those who gave their lives in the service of Kenya's freedom and nationhood. Walking through it is an act of remembrance, an invitation to reflect on the cost of independence and the individuals whose sacrifice made it possible.
The installation honours freedom fighters, detainees, and ordinary citizens who faced violence, imprisonment, and death during the colonial period and the liberation struggle. Their names, stories, and portraits are preserved here as a permanent record of national debt and gratitude.
As both a memorial and an experiential space, the Tunnel of Martyrs challenges visitors to carry forward the memory of sacrifice, not as a burden, but as a foundation for the responsibilities of citizenship and the ongoing work of building a just and free Kenya.
